Though Brandelion was our first Mastiff, we didn’t get involved with dog shows until our second apricot female came along in 1989…Velvet who finished her championship easily followed by her fawn 1/2 brother Clancy. Our first litter out of Velvet produced 2 female puppies and a 2nd litter a singleton. We kept them all…SaraBear, Mandy and Tessa. The last two finishing their championships like their dam. We lost Velvet and all three daughters to osteosarcoma…a reminder of how important good health can be for our breed.
We began again in 1999 when we added Castle Creek Comstock’s Calli to our family. She finished her championship easily and went on to place 4th nationally for BOS points. She was bred once producing a 10-puppy litter, 5 of which became champions. That gave her the MCOA Top Producing Brood Bitch collar award for 2004.
Caitlin joined us in 2006 from Impressive Mastiffs in Missouri. She didn’t really care for the conformation ring, but turned out to be a great working dog adding numerous rally and obedience titles after her name. Christmas in 2007 brought Lucah offspring Molly and Mulder to our house. Our Rescue Honey took on the puppy training duties that she appeared to have known quite well in her former life before ending up in the local shelter. Though blind and definitely a senior, she kept all the puppies that came into our house in line with one “no-nonsense” bark.
We lost Molly at almost 12 years in 2019. I thought would be our last Mastiff until I saw the litter from Lucah x Pineapple when they were born in October 2021. I was immediately drawn to the one fawn female and knew that I had to have one more Mastiff in my life. That is our Ms Sunshine. She currently has 11 points and 3 majors towards her championship title…all from the 6-9 month puppy class. Life is good!
