With heavy heart we want to share that Molly left us last Friday. She was almost 12 years of age (an accomplishment for any Mastiff) and though she was starting to have mobility issues, she was still getting around until a spider bite earlier in the week left us with no choice but to let her go. The amount of damage to her paw in 4 days was unreal and there was nothing we could do to stop the progression. Molly will now be with her brother Mulder running free without pain.
Molly was always our easy puppy willing to give up toys and bones to her brother, ignore Caitlin’s grumpiness and put up with Bakari and Brogan sniffing her butt, never asking more that 2 meals a day, a short walk and ear rubs at night. She was already a senior when Bakari came along and past 10 when Brogan joined us. Nevertheless, she took on her puppy raising duties without complaint and treated the boys fairly unless they pestered her too much. Then one big bark was enough to make them behave.
When Molly was young she did well in both conformation and obedience though she never got the hang of off-lead heeling. She was people friendly just like her sire, Lucah and loved the meet and greet part of dog shows. We took her to the 2017 Mastiff National Specialty in Sacramento and she showed like a champ in the Veterans class moving around the ring like a 5 year old instead of one near 10 years.
Though Molly never gave us any puppies, she did an awesome job raising Bakari and Brogan. She dodged many serious health issues after 5 years of age that made us think she might be invincible and make it to 12 years. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. Give your pets a hug from the Molly Doodle.
Best,
Ron and Caroline
